Deep tissue massage uses slow, firm pressure and focused techniques to reach deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is designed to target chronic tension, knots (adhesions), and muscle stiffness.
Key techniques include:
Stripping: Slow, deep strokes along the length of the muscle fibres using fingers, thumbs, or forearms.
Friction: Pressure applied across the grain of the muscle to break up adhesions and improve mobility.
Trigger point therapy: Sustained pressure on tight, sensitive spots to release pain and tension.
Myofascial release: Gentle stretching and sustained pressure to loosen fascia (the connective tissue around muscles).
